Banana Pecan Smoothie

I was sitting outside today enjoying the perfect California sun when all of a sudden I had an overwhelming urge for a banana smoothie...

There is a restaurant around this area called the Falafel Drive-In that serves the most amazing banana milkshakes and so I thought I would try to replicate a vegan (and less fattening!) version of this perfect summer drink.  I found a great recipe and tweaked it a little so here it goes...hope you enjoy!

Banana Pecan Smoothie

2 sliced bananas
1/3 c dry uncooked oats
2 tbsp ground flax (keep whole flax seeds in freezer and grind yourself when needed)
2 c vanilla almond milk (use more or less to get the desired consistency of your smoothie; vanilla rice milk or soymilk are great substitutes)
1/4 c chopped pecans (walnuts are great too)
1 c ice

Add all ingredients to blender, bananas first, and blend.

I love recipes like this that are so simple to make yet so satisfying.  And with the added flax you are getting a great source of omega 3 and fiber.  This decadent poolside treat taste all the better knowing that its good for you too!  Happy summer...finallllyyyyy!
